George was born in Auckland, County Durham, England, in July 1889, and married Selina Harriet Robinson, the daughter of John and Mary Robinson, on Nov. 11, 1911 -- 11/11/11 -- in County Durham.

A member of the World War I British Expeditionary Force, he was wounded on Oct. 10, 1917, and died six days later at a small hospital in Belgium.

Selina, who was born in 1892, died Feb. 22, 1919, in the flu pandemic. Her mother brought up their four children.
