aj. Eleazar "Lee," here a lieutenant colonel, commanded two different "C" detachments of Special Forces soldiers during his one-year tour in Vietnam. The pictures were taken during a harrowing patrol that ended up being held as a model of Special Forces conduct under fire, so it is written in "West to Cambodia," by S.L.A. Marshall, "Green Berets at War," by Shelby Stanton, and "Inside the Green Berets," by Charles M Simpson.

Lee is pictured in two of the books and the picture at right -- with him on the right -- is on the dust jacket of the Simpson book.

He was awarded a Silver Star, a Bronze Star with "V" device and a Purple Heart while serving in Vietnam.
