Dr. Arthur (1883-1961) and his family submitted this photo with his 1924 application of a passport while the family was living at 718 Linden Ave., Oak Park, Ill. He was seeking to go to Austria to study. He was 6 feet tall, had brown eyes and hair

With him are wife Ruth Frances Brown (1889-1970), 10-year-old daughter Nancy Kirkham (Parmelee) Middleton (1913-1903), 6-year-old Arthur Hawley Parmelee III, (1917-2014), and 3-year-old James Lovett Parmelee (1921-1945), who went missing in action in World War II.

Arthur, a pediatrician, lived in Minneapolis, Minn., and then Chicago where he was on staff at St. Luke's Hospital and chief of pediatrics at Cook County General Hospital in 1926. After the family's move to Los Angeles in 1947, he was on staff at UCLA Medical Center and a professor at USC.
