Franklin (1848-1921) worked for his father's omnibus company in Chicago for many years and retired to California with his wife, Meroc (Charles) Parmelee (1850- ? ). They had this 5,000-plus-square-foot Tudor Revival, designed by architect Frank T. Kegley, built in 1912 for about $14,000.

The hilltop house looks much the same
in this 2011 photo. It has views of
downtown Los Angeles from the front,
and Silver Lake from the rear. Some
colorful tile work was added in the 1930s.
